About this event
Over the last six years, the Chicago Park District has quietly fostered a critical arts incubator for new and emerging composer/performers in the Marquette Park Composer’s Workshop. 9 original suites of music and 7 full-length albums later, Marquette Park Composer's Workshop is ready to engage in deeper and more responsorial suites--here, in communication with the artwork housed in the Vanderpoel Gallery. Select member-composers have toured the gallery and chosen pieces of the fine art housed within which spoke directly to them. Then, pieces were written in response to the works in question--pieces which will be performed live at this gallery concert and which will make use of the Vanderpoel Gallery's fine Steinway pianos.
This concert will be integrated into the Vanderpoel Gallery's celebration of the 169th anniversary of John Vanderpoel's birthday. Do come for an evening of original musical compositions housed in the gallery holding the work which inspired them!
